Short answer: if a sale comes through one of Etsy's Offsite Ads, Etsy takes an additional 12% or 15% of the full order total (item price plus shipping) — on top of the regular transaction and payment-processing fees, not instead of them. Which rate applies, and whether you can opt out, depends on your shop's total sales on Etsy over the trailing 365 days — not sales through Offsite Ads specifically.

Per Etsy's own published terms: shops with less than $10,000 in total sales on Etsy over the trailing 365 days can opt out of Offsite Ads entirely from Shop Manager settings — if they don't, qualifying orders carry a 15% fee. Once a shop has sold $10,000 or more on Etsy in any 365-day period, participation becomes mandatory for the lifetime of the shop (even if sales later drop back below $10,000), and the fee drops to 12% instead. The fee only applies to an order when a buyer clicked through from one of the ads and purchased within the following 30 days — it is not charged on every sale. One ceiling applies either way: per Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy, the Offsite Ads fee on a single attributed order is capped at $100 USD, no matter how large the order (a $700 order at 15% would compute to $105, but is charged $100).
| Fee | Basis | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | 6.5% × $50.00 | $3.25 |
| Payment processing (U.S. example) | 3% × $50.00 + $0.25 | $1.75 |
| Offsite Ads fee (under $10k tier) | 15% × $50.00 | $7.50 |
| Total fees on this order | $12.50 |
That's 25% of the order total in fees combined, versus 9.75% ($4.88) on the same $50 order without an Offsite Ads sale. The gap is the Offsite Ads fee itself — it doesn't replace anything, it stacks on top.
Yes. Like the regular transaction fee, the Offsite Ads fee is calculated on the full order total the buyer pays, including shipping — not on the item price alone. See Does Etsy Charge Fees on Shipping? for the equivalent math on the regular fee lines.
Only if your shop's total sales on Etsy stay under $10,000 in the trailing 365 days — in that case you can opt out from your shop's Offsite Ads settings at any time. Once your shop has sold $10,000 or more on Etsy in any 365-day period, participation becomes mandatory for the lifetime of the shop and cannot be disabled, even if your sales later drop back below that threshold. Confirm your shop's own eligibility and current settings directly in Etsy's Offsite Ads dashboard, since thresholds and terms can change.
Because this fee can land on a sale without warning, it's worth baking into your prices upfront rather than treating it as a surprise deduction — see How to Price Handmade Items on Etsy (Fee-Inclusive Formula) for a fee-inclusive pricing formula.
